What is Character Education?

Character education centres on intentionally fostering positive personal traits called virtues, such as compassion, determination, gratitude and critical thinking in our students. It encompasses all of the planned and unplanned, implicit and explicit, activities that help young people to become the best versions of themselves. In other words, character education is the provision that schools put in place to allow their students to flourish. This webinar brings together leading thinkers and practitioners from the Jubilee Centre and from across Birmingham to discuss and debate how to make Birmingham a city of character.

Pedagogy Showcase

Pedagogy is defined simply as the method, and practice, of teaching. It encompasses teaching approaches, teaching theory, and feedback and assessment. In the current educational climate it is even more important to get the teaching and learning right for the young people we serve. Following the Ofsted changes over the last few years there has been a huge emphasis on the curriculum and while this was absolutely the right approach, now is time to ensure that we are providing the best quality teaching and learning for the delivery of these curriculums. The BEP Pedagogy Showcase will hear from 4 published keynote speakers who will be sharing their thoughts and ideas around this topic. We also have 4 authors from the ‘In Action’ book series who will be running workshops to discuss their findings through their research.
