Following on from our last roundtable where we introduced some of the changes around the mental health model in Birmingham, we are delighted to invite you to our second roundtable event: Making Meaning of Mental Health as we continue our journey into understanding and shaping mental health initiatives in Birmingham. This session will provide insight into the evolving landscape of mental health services for young people, the ethical considerations in measuring wellbeing, and how to empower our communities for resilient mental health support.
Event Highlights:
Guest Speaker: Sarah-Jane Smith
Head of Nursing, FTB and Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Foundation Trust
Sarah-Jane Smith will offer an in-depth look at the current transformations within Birmingham’s mental health model. Her expertise and leadership in advocating for strengthened links between mental health services and educational institutions will provide attendees with an overview of future initiatives aimed at fostering mental wellbeing in schools and communities.
Insights from the Birmingham Wellbeing Census with Colin Palmer
Lead Researcher on Children and Young People’s Wellbeing Measures
Colin Palmer will present the latest data from the Birmingham Wellbeing Census, shedding light on the current state of youth wellbeing in our city. He will also discuss the ethical dimensions of mental health metrics in educational settings, focusing on how schools and communities can use this data to support meaningful and responsible mental health practices.
Exploring Resilience in Communities
We will also be revisiting concepts of resilience, how Cinderella really was only a Fairy Godmother away from a very different kind of life and what that means for us as communities supporting families and staff in challenging times. This discussion will challenge us to rethink traditional roles, services, and practices and explore the power dynamics involved in creating impactful mental health support systems.
