Primary Artslink Network - Empowering Arts in Education: A Dynamic Session for Arts Leads and Headteachers

Birmingham Arts School
Wednesday 9th October 2024
16:15 - 18:15

Overview:

Join us for an engaging and informative event where Birmingham teachers, artists, and arts organizations come together to explore the exciting possibilities of arts in education. This network aims to foster collaborations, inspire creativity, and strengthen the bond between education and the Arts. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with passionate Arts Education professionals and discover new partnerships that can enrich your school's curriculum.

In this session, we will ignite your passion for integrating the arts across the curriculum in meaningful ways. It’s your chance to connect with fellow arts leads and headteachers to reimagine how the arts can transform education from a mere add-on to an essential, vibrant part of your students’ learning experience.

We’ll delve into strategies to broaden young people's access to the arts, exploring why this access is crucial for their development. Together, we’ll challenge the notion of tokenistic arts provision, focusing instead on empowering students to use the arts as a tool to question, explore, and make sense of the world around them. By examining the current state of the arts in the UK, we’ll uncover how a well-integrated arts curriculum can significantly enhance the overall growth and creativity of young minds.

Key Outcomes:

- Innovative Integration: Gain insights into how the arts can be seamlessly woven into the curriculum to enrich students' learning experiences across all subjects.
- Empowered Confidence: Build your confidence in approaching and securing funding for arts initiatives, ensuring your school’s arts provision is robust and sustainable.
- Practical Takeaways: Leave with actionable resources and a clear plan to elevate the arts in your school, provided by the expert networks of BAS.

We’re excited to welcome three exceptional Guest Speakers:

Michelle Hooper, Headteacher of West Primary School, will share inspiring examples of how Dance, Drama, Music, and Visual Art are embedded across their school’s curriculum to foster a dynamic learning environment.

Steve Ball, Chair of Birmingham Music Hub and an expert in arts fundraising, will lead a focused session on effective strategies for securing funding, empowering you to confidently support and expand your school’s arts projects.

Jess Tickell, Senior Relationship Manager. Jess holds the overview of the Arts Council’s work with children and young people in the Midlands. She will talk to us about the Arts Council’s open funding programmes and try to answer any questions you may have.

Don’t miss this opportunity to enrich your school’s approach to the arts, gain practical tools, and walk away ready to make a real difference in your students’ lives through the power of creativity. This is the first of three Primary Artslink Events to be held this academic year.
