Unlock Creative Potential with Birmingham Art School's CPD 2024-2025 Programme. Birmingham Art School’s CPD 2024-2025 programme offers an invaluable opportunity for headteachers and teachers to enhance their curriculum through professional development sessions led by leading experts across the arts industry. These sessions are carefully designed to equip teachers with practical, hands-on techniques that can be directly applied in the classroom, enriching the learning experience for students.
By attending, teachers will not only expand their creative toolkit but also gain access to a wealth of teaching resources, lesson ideas, and innovative practices that foster student engagement and achievement. This is an investment in both your own professional growth and the artistic development of your pupils. With everything we deliver this year we ask the question: How can you be a changemaker in arts education? Let us help you shift your practice to grow your creative curriculum.
This CPD session is led by Big Brum, a theatre company that has been working with schools for over 40 years. At its heart, Big Brum believes children are not undeveloped adults, but human beings in their own right with specific experiences that go to the heart of being human. But what is being human in the world today?
Art, like science, is a mode of knowing the world. The company uses drama and theatre to enable young people to make their world tangible.
Big Brum Theatre Company is now offering English and Drama teachers the opportunity to be part of an exploratory CPD based around the story of 'Jekyll and Hyde'. Stevenson wrote his story in 1886 but it has continued to resonate profoundly for audiences, taking hold of our imaginations.
“My devil had been long caged; he came out roaring.“ What lurks beneath the surface of all of us?
“The man trampled calmly over the child’s body and left her screaming on the ground. it sounds nothing to hear, but it was hellish to see”. However hard you try to hide your feelings, you can never truly hide them forever.
Together, the teachers, Big Brum actors and director will explore the story to make meaning for ourselves. In doing so, we will discovering ways that this and other such classic texts can be opened for young people. A set of books and filmed resources will be made available to all session participants, who are also eligible for a 10% discount on bookings for the Spring Tour of 'Jekyll & Hyde'. Come and join us.
Lunch will be provided.
