Autin Dance Theatre in partnership with Mac Birmingham are thrilled to be delivering a community lantern procession event called ‘Light Up Fest’ on Saturday 30th November at 4.30pm. The event will be a culmination of working with local community members and participants to create willow and paper lanterns and structures of different shapes/sizes which will then be paraded around Canon Hill Park by participants, alongside live performances and music.
We will be working with a number of local community groups in the lead up to Light Up Fest!, and we were also keen to work with 2 schools in the local area.
We are offering schools 4 x half days of free workshops to take please within school time with a year group from the school (this could be one class or 2 classes from the same year if we can use a large hall space for the activity).
Workshops will consist of making the lanterns and willow structures, some poetry/creative writing work and some movement choreography around the procession.
What we ask from you
To provide a space for the activity to happen that is suitable for the group size
Staff to support the workshop (enough to manage the number of young people in the room)
To ensure participants and their families can come to Light Up Fest on Saturday 30th November from 3pm at Mac Birmingham (Canon Hill Park)
What we will provide
Experienced and DBS Certified Practitioners to deliver the workshop
All workshop materials
Clear communication around Light Up Fest to pass onto participants and families
Holding space for participants on the day
Light refreshments on the event day
If you would like a further conversation about this opportunity then please do get in touch to arrange a phone call.
We are offering this out to several schools so this will be a first come first serve basis, with priority going to schools in the surrounding area of Canon Hill Park.
