To celebrate 40 years of tearing up the rulebook, Forced Entertainment are sharing a landmark project with online audiences.
In Complete Works: Table Top Shakespeare six performers create condensed versions of all of the Shakespeare plays, comically and intimately retelling them, using a collection of everyday objects as stand-ins for the characters on the one metre stage of an ordinary table top.
Forced Entertainment have long had an obsession with virtual or described performance, exploring in different ways over the years the possibilities of conjuring extraordinary scenes, images and stories using language alone.
Forced Entertainment’s Complete Works: Table Top was the first time the company had approached dramatic literature and the Shakespearean legacy and the project has served as both a compelling introduction to the texts and a contemporary reinvention of them.
This free resource may be of particular interest to teachers who are exploring the plays or who are teaching adaptation, puppetry or other aspects of performance. There are two full sets of the performances available – the 2015 premiere edition from Berlin and the ‘At Home’ edition presented during the Covid-19 pandemic in 202.
